Review: Enchanted

by

As promised, here is my official review for Enchanted. I wanted to see this movie as soon as I saw the first preview and it was even better than I expected.

enchanted-poster-433.jpgThe story starts out in the fairytale cartoon land of Andalasia, where Giselle (Amy Adams) is waiting for her true love. While trying to escape from an ogre, Giselle falls into the arms of Prince Edward (James Marsden) and the two plan to marry the next day. But, when Giselle arrives at the castle for her wedding, Prince Edward’s evil step-mother Queen Narcissa (Susan Sarandon) plans to keep them apart at all costs. She disguises herself as an old hag and lures Giselle over to a wishing well, pushing her in and sending her to the real world where she lands right in the middle of Times Square. While Giselle is trying to figure out where she is and how to get back to Andalasia, she meets Robert (Patrick Dempsey) and his daughter, Morgan, who try to help this troubled woman get home. While Giselle waits for Prince Edward to come and rescue her, she learns a lot about the real world, and teaches Robert and Morgan all about happily ever after.

Amy Adams in Enchanted

This movie was fantastic! It was the most entertaining movie I’ve seen in a long time. I’ve always been a big fan of Disney movies and of course happily ever afters, but this movie put a fresh new twist on all of that while poking fun at the Disney movies we all know and love. It has all the elements of a classic Disney movie and also has a lot of references to our old favorites (Cinderella, Snow White, etc.). I loved how it was a mix between animated characters and live action. It was such a great story and the casting was absolutely perfect. Amy Adams was hilarious and did an amazing job with her unique role as a real life fairytale princess. Same with James Marsden, he was so funny and animated as the Prince and played it perfectly. The oh-so-handsome Patrick Dempsey, or should I say McDreamy, was great as the character who brought it all back to reality. And of course he was as gorgeous as ever.
I would say this is a must-see movie; especially for kids. The kids that were in the theater when I saw it absolutely loved it and got very into it (and I must admit I did as well). But don’t get me wrong, it’s not just for kids. There’s something in it for everyone and I can almost guarantee that whoever sees it will enjoy it.
