Review: Michael Clayton
I went to see this movie because of all the Oscar hoopla and other hype it was receiving. As usual, it didn’t live up to the expectations that were set for it.
The fact that this movie was nominated for an Oscar for best picture and American Gangster wasn’t, really disgusts me.
Plot summary from imdb.com:
Michael Clayton is an in-house fixer at one of the largest corporate law firms in New York. A former criminal prosecutor, Clayton takes care of Kenner, Bach, & Ledeen’s dirtiest work at the behest of the firm’s co-founder, Marty Bach. Though burned out and hardly content with his job as a fixer, his divorce, a failed business venture, and mounting debt have left Clayton inextricably tied to the firm. At U/North, meanwhile, the career of litigator Karen Crowder rests on the multi-million dollar settlement of a class-action suit that Clayton’s firm is leading to a seemingly successful conclusion. But when Kenner Bach’s brilliant and guilt-ridden attorney Arthur Edens sabotages the U/North case, Clayton faces the biggest challenge of his career and his life.
OK, this movie was nominated for 7 Academy Awards, so clearly there’s something I just don’t see. This was one of the most boring movies I’ve seen in a long time. I understand what they were trying to achieve, but for me it just didn’t work. I didn’t care about any of the characters and I was completely uninterested in the story from the beginning. I wanted it to get better, I really did, but that just never happened. The last half hour or so was tolerable because it was the climax, but other than that I was bored to tears. There were so many things going on that had nothing to do with the story and a bunch of pointless characters. I don’t know, maybe I’m not enough of a movie snob to enjoy this movie but I like movies because they’re entertaining; and this one just wasn’t.
I went to see it with a friend and she actually liked it, which I was confused about, so I know other people have different opinions about this movie. But since this is my review I suppose I’m allowed to be honest; and honestly, I would say… don’t waste your time.
My Rating:
Didn’t Like it

I agree with you, I rented this and didn’t see what made it to the oscars. Glad to see others felt the same way. I was sad to see that Pirates didn’t get the Oscars.

Yay! I’m so glad someone agrees with me! I thought I was the only crazy one.
Yeah, the Oscars this year were a disappointment.
Thanks for the comment!

not a problem, actually I’m a big movie buff and will be writing some of my reviews over at TVonDvdbuzz in the next few weeks of various shows.
What did you think of Golden Compass? I actually liked it and can’t wait for the next show. Oh and Spiderwick was very interesting.Did have a few H.Potter moments but good movie still.

Cool. I’ll have to remember to check them out.
I actually haven’t seen the Golden Compass or Spiderwick. I want to go see Spiderwick but the Golden Compass didn’t look good to me… I guess I should check it out anyways.
